Siemens is a global organisation, operating in a number of markets and industries with a diverse product and service portfolio. Operating on such a large scale brings with it a high level of responsibility. To reflect this, corporate responsibility has been placed at the centre of our global strategy.
Our activities impact customers, employees, shareholders and society as a whole in various ways. For Siemens, corporate responsibility means that we safeguard the success and future of our company by taking into account economic, social, ethical and environmental concerns.
Continue to Compliance and Risk Management
Siemens has clear rules governing its ethical behaviour towards customers, business partners, employees, public entities and society at large.
An established Business Continuity framework has been aligned to British Standard BS25999 and a full Business Continuity management system is active and is regularly reviewed. By implementing these systems Siemens Metering Services can ensure continuity of service to our customer in the event of a serious incident.
Disaster recovery tests are carried out bi-annually with 'business user' participation an integral part of the exercise. In addition, we conduct Crisis Management exercises based on possible emergency scenarios.
Protection of our natural environment is important to us all so we ensure our business activities have the minimum impact. Siemens Metering Services operates an Environmental Management system which is registered to ISO 14001:2004 with BSI.
Siemens Metering Services is not just a business. We're a community too. We work within a larger community whose interests and concerns we share. Many of our employees commit much of their free time (and some working time) to activities in their local communities.
We're helping communities and wildlife in Nottingham by forging close links with Nottingham City Council, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Wollaton Nature Reserves to help manage and conserve three local nature reserves.
As an active supporter of the local community and environment, Siemens Metering Services:
Caring Hands is the banner for the company's community activities. We volunteer disaster relief, support good causes and donate funds.

Generation 21 is the term for all Siemens' education programmes. Many businesses enjoy close links with their local schools and colleges.

Volunteers from Siemens Metering Services regularly attend Seagrave Primary school in Nottingham helping to support the "Right To Read" initiative, providing support to the teachers in terms of enhancing reading and communication skills.
Siemens Metering Services provides financial sponsorship for the German department at Fernwood Comprehensive school in Nottingham, helping to purchase equipment for the students.
This programme, part of the Generation 21 initiative, clearly demonstrates the Siemens' drive to raise the profile of science and engineering among young people. William Siemens, our founder in the UK, was a leading inventor, engineer, environmentalist and businessman and in 1883 he was knighted by Queen Victoria for his contribution to science.
Passionately believing that science's role was to enhance quality of life, he had the gift of being able to translate the latest scientific thought and technology into practical ideas from which everyone could benefit.
In 1883, to commemorate his many achievements, London University's Imperial College established the Sir William Siemens Medal, awarded to the final year's top electrical engineering student. The tradition continues.
By encouraging more students to take an interest in science and technology, we can ensure that more of the world's leading-edge technology is developed in the UK.
